Jamie Meredith - Creator of The GrowlieMy name is Jamie Meredith and the Growlie Project is a result of passion born from need.  Currently the project team consists of myself and Keith Rogers of St. Louis, MO. Both Keith and I are all about building and doing cool things that make a difference.   Everything about this project is an extension of our desire to increase awareness about creating sustainable goods while at the same time increasing usage of our respective studio/shops.  My shop is located just a few miles outside of Nashville while Keith is located in St. Louis

The Growlie project was birthed, as most products are, out of a direct need for a solution.  As a lover of great locally sourced beer, I became increasingly frustrated with the hassle of carting growlers too and from our local favorite brew house (Yazoo Brewery).

Over the last year or so, I looked at several options ranging from growler koozie's to cardboard boxes with handles.  Several of the carrier options out there are very adequate but none had the character and sustainable nature that I was looking for.  Most were made out of petroleum based materials like polyester and polystyrene.  Many did not account for the need to hold the growlers up in the car, keeping them from falling over and potentially spewing beer all over the inside of the car.

I found a few wood style carriers, but they were heavy and bulky, feeling more like full sized coolers rather than the lightweight carrier that I wanted to use.  Additionally, the wood versions I found used lots of metal hardware and/or petroleum products as part of the design, which made them expensive to ship and bad for the environment.

It was after looking for some weeks that I decided to set out and make a more sustainable carrier that would look good and hold up to the demands of carting 1/2 gallon containers of beer to and from the house.

The primary goal of the Growlie is to use lightweight materials that are sustainable and ecologically friendly.  Some of the key features are the use of natural joints that don't require fasteners, a design that when shipped can be assembled by the end user if needed, thus reducing shipping costs and the impact on the environment.

Currently myself and Keith are working through prototype designs to accommodate the various types and sizes of growlers out there.  We are also working to find sustainable, non-petroleum based insulators for keeping our favorite beverages cold.

The Growlie manufacturing process uses laser cut parts (Keith's cool equipment) that reduce waste and ensure highly accurate parts that are easy to handle and assemble.  We are committed to sourcing materials locally and producing goods using local labor.
